THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM

The 14-Week Residency Program (formerly known
as Special Programs) is a flexible, age-appropriate residency that introduces students from Pre-K through 12th grade to painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, collage, or 2-D applied design.  The residency allows the artist time to engage the students in the creative process. The residency is co-planned with school administrators and teachers and is customized to meet each school’s needs.

STUDIO’s artists address the strands of The Arts Blueprint and can connect art making to themes, concepts, and processes addressed in other curriculum areas. Students discover new ways of meeting intellectual and artistic challenges: They envision an idea, examine works of art, problem-solve, and hone technical and expressive skills. Teachers gain fresh perspectives on how to foster students’ abilities to carry on sustained art investigations. At the end of the residency, students present their work in an exhibition to which the school community, family, and friends are invited. This celebratory occasion demonstrates the creativity of participating classes through portraiture, personal narratives, city-scapes, landscapes, group murals, banners, hand-made books, puppets, or other art forms.

The 14-session residency serves four classes per day. Classes may be scheduled during any six-hour period between 8A.M. and 6P.M. The residency includes planning, professional development workshops, direct services to students, exhibition installation, and a culminating exhibition.

Price per residency: $6,300.
