PROJECT 2:
PS 196, Region 8, Brooklyn
Principal Janine Colon
STUDIO Artist: Christy Gast
The “Megaflora” installation features 100 Plexiglas medallions, painted by fourth and fifth grade students at PS 196. Each of the medallions takes its inspiration from a student’s knowledge of plant biology, melding nature with the urban landscape. This large-scale mobile is hung from the ceiling in the main entry area.

PROJECT 3:
Long Island City High School, Region 4, Queens
Principal William Bassell
STUDIO Artist: Noah Grussgott
Students at Long Island City High School used the David Smith retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum for inspiration to create a dramatic copper sculpture. They had spent the semester learning to work with copper, and then created their own designs for four-foot long panels. The panels were assembled into one large circle around the large atrium space in the library, a central location for students and faculty.

PROJECT 4:
PS 49, Region 4, Queens
Principal Tony Lombardi
STUDIO Artist: Vicki Behm
In connection with their curriculum, students explored the city and their local neighborhood, selecting three scenesof significance that they wanted to depict in their permanent installation. They created three large mixed-media collages, using printmaking techniques and lacquered tissue paper. The themes of the three collages are the PS 49 building, the New York Harbor on July 4, and the New York skyline.
