Collaborative Community
The Collaborative Community Program (founded in 2005) is a selective program designed to build on the strengths of innovative administrators and art teachers who have established exemplary visual arts program in their schools. A grant provides the funding for sites to develop and demonstrate administrative and instructional practices that result in the full integration of the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Visual Arts.
The objectives of the Collaborative Community
Program Sites are to:
- Provide every student with high-quality Blueprint-focused direct instruction
- Develop and field-test model art units; document instructional strategies and assessments
- Create professional development centers to share best practices with visitings school administrators and teachers
- Engage families in extending art learning in the home
Participating schools receive:
- A STUDIO grant of up to 80% of program costs
- Thirty week residency for twenty classes; serving five
classes daily - A generous supply of high quality art materials,
resources and tools - Professional development workshops for faculty
- Administrative and program staff support
- Family and community workshops
- Formal documentation, assessment and evaluation
of the project - Recognition as a best-practices site at the Department of Education.
