PROGRAMS

At the heart of all STUDIO programs are in-depth collaborations with schools and community-based organizations that range from one semester to five years. Artists develop relationships with program administrators, teachers, and parents, and our skilled program staff builds partnerships and facilitates collaborative planning.

STUDIO workshops are led by professional artists whose commitment to their craft inspires young people to experiment with art materials and techniques, reflect on their creative process, and feel pride in their art work.

STUDIO, the co-creator of The Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Visual Arts, understands your needs and can help you enhance your school’s arts profile.  

Special Programs

Introduce your students to the ways of the artist. Special Programs are flexible, age-appropriate residencies for students Pre-K through 12th Grade. Investigations in art media—painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and collage, will pique their interest and have them asking for more. Choose either the fourteen or six session residency. An after-school residency to extend the school day is also available.

Early Childhood Program

Little hands: Big tools. This is a two-year program for three to seven year olds designed to build sensory and fine motor skills, and cognitive and social skills through art-making. Our specially-trained teaching artist will collaborate with your classroom teacher to create a child-centered arts-rich learning environment.

Long Term Program, K-12

Limited availability: Place your reservation. The Long Term Program is the richest art experience offered to New York City schools. A professional artist working with your students in a dedicated studio classroom for up to five years will transform the culture of your school. Teacher-artist collaborative planning will result in classroom teachers learning how to conduct art lessons on their own and seizing opportunities to infuse art into the general instructional program. The Long Term is the original STUDIO program.

Collaborative Community

The Collaborative Community Program (founded in 2005) is a selective program designed to build on the strengths of innovative administrators and art teachers who have established exemplary visual arts programs in their schools. A grant provides the funding for sites to develop and demonstrate administrative and instructional practices that result in the full integration of the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Visual Arts.

First Grade Initiative

To support the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Visual Arts, STUDIO IN A SCHOOL is offering a special discounted rate for first grade classes. STUDIO is able to subsidize the cost of arts programming for this age group. This program can help your school meet the Arts Count requirements while also building your students’ literacy skills.

ARTS INTERN

ARTS INTERN places college undergraduates in paid internships with New York City museums. Since its inception in 1999, these interns have worked alongside museum professionals in curatorial, education, marketing, and development departments.

ART MENTORS

The Studio Art Mentors program is a paid summer internship for undergraduate college students who are BFA candidates, with an interest in working with young people.  In this program, Interns will work with high school students who are trained to work as art instructors for young children in summer camps throughout New York City.  The Interns will provide guidance and oversight to these high school students during the summer, and will also co-teach art classes with them.
