Collage: Learning Takes Shape

As Skills Develop and Artists Grow

Guillermo, grade 3

cut-paper collage
STUDIO artist: Damali Miller

I Can Draw with Lots of Things, Even Scissors: Giving students the opportunity to draw with various mediums and tools opens up possibilities. Moving a tool around on a surface to create a line and then a shape can be done in many ways, i.e. pencil, chalk, cray-pas, paint, or ink. However, when you introduce “drawing” with scissors, you are now able to now able handle the cut-out lines (which are actually narrow shapes). You are able to not only handle the shapes, but also to move them around.
