Expanding the Frame
Over the past seven years, Studio has been leading major federal research efforts, having received three U.S. Department of Education grants totaling more than seven million dollars. The third grant, awarded in October 2014, is our second Arts Education Model Development and Dissemination (AEMDD) grant.
This highly competitive award will provide two million dollars over four years to improve educational outcomes for upper grade students in high-poverty, low-performing elementary schools. During the three implementation years of the project, Studio will work with 48 educators and 800 4th and 5th graders in four Title I NYC elementary schools in the South Bronx (i.e. treatment schools). All are among the 5% lowest-performing schools in New York State. Building upon lessons learned in Studio’s recent five-year i-3 Arts Achieve grant, the project will employ a robust use of technology for instruction, assessment, professional development, and documentation of student work.
2015 will be the first implementation year; check back for updates on the project.
